OCEAN CITY BEACH WEDDINGS
If you are going to have a wedding in Ocean City or on one of our beautiful beaches, here is a little advice, based on experience that you might find useful.
With getting married right on the beach keep in mind that Ocean City beaches are public beaches so you will have no problem holding a ceremony there under the sun with the sound of the waves crashing near you.
It is highly recommended that you have your ceremony at 5pm – 6pm or pretty close to sunset, not only is it more beautiful around that time, but also it will be a little cooler too. If you are getting married around 12 noon – 4pm you and your guests will have to walk across that hot sand, and you will have to share the beach with all the other sun bathers visiting our fun city. In a lot of cases you can easily ask people to move but keep in mind you will have unknown people in all your photos jumping in and out of the ocean or walking along the beaches behind you. Another good point to having your wedding in the evening or late afternoon, ask any photographer and they will tell you that 11am – 5pm is about the worst time for taking photos as it will create harsh shadows on your face, unless using a flash or some kind of light modifier.
You can get as plain or as fancy with the beach as you might like, from a full archway and 50+ chairs with an isle way of flower petals, and various other decorations, or you can go with nothing at all. There is nothing saying you can’t setup such things on Ocean City’s public beaches. If you are thinking of having an archway and other beach decorations, there are companies locally that can set up the chairs and various items for you so that you don’t have to. Or if you decide to do it yourself, allow for setup time and time to decorate, at least an hour before the wedding.
On to some of Ocean City’s favorite wedding hot spots and as they aren’t in any particular order as far as personal preference but I’m hoping to organize it in such a way you might find useful.
Seacreats – Fun, Beachy, lots of people, good buffet style, Room for DJ and Dancing.
With Seacreats located on 49th street on the Bay, you are in for a fun time. There are two options that I know of that work really well, the Night club for indoors and the beach section near their pier for outdoors.
They have catering on the premises, and will often times rope off a section of their place to accommodate you and your guests, and will have a bar, tables, a little section of beach, and even your own bouncer to keep the tourists out of your area. Warning – Bring your ID card with you – even if you have kids or even older adults they will want to check, and the children can come in no problem but as you might like to drink on your wedding day, that will be a factor.
Fager’s Island – Also beachy, more upscale, plate dinners, Room for DJ and Dancing.
Fager’s is also located on the bayside of coastal hwy on 58th street. Here you have the option of having your wedding in what feels like your own little piece of paradise. If you need it more indoors you have occupy their second floor dinning area, great for if it rains and you need a plan B.
Their staff at Fagers is really awesome and they will go out of their way to make your day special. I’ve even seen the owner of Fager’s running around making the place look nice, and that say’s a lot to me. I like that they have these little nook tables for your guests to sit down and enjoy their meals. There is lot of great photo opportunities here with all the pretty palm trees and beautiful flowers. Warning – if you are having your wedding upstairs, be aware there is no elevator or any easy way to get a lot of stuff up there. And elderly people who might be handicapped will need assistance.
Harrison’s Harbor Watch – Room for DJ and Dancing, Elevator access.
Having been to a lot of weddings here, I’ve come to like this place for lots of little reasons. What I like most is they have such awesome sunsets near here, so hopefully your photographer, will take you out at around the right time, and snap some cool shots. There are a lot of photo opportunities near and around Harrison’s Harbor Watch, from the totem pole, Assateague in the background, to the jetty of rocks, to the Ocean City pier, and the boardwalk itself. If you are getting married here, I would seriously recommend dedicating some time for all cool photos you can get here. You could easily have your ceremony on the rocks or on the beach and then make your way to Harrison’s Harbor Watch for your reception, or you can have your ceremony inside there as a good rainy day plan B.
